Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Chicago, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across Illinois run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Chicago is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Chicago follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

This cozy and hip restaurant was exactly what I needed when I was feeling under the weather. The workers were kind and helpful, and helped me find vegetarian options. My favorite part of the meal was 100% the ube horchata (i could be biased, I love horchata). The vegan pho was a giant portion, with veggies on the side, and had a nice mix of perfectly cooked vegetables inside. The dumplings were fried, which I always love, and came with a thick sweet and savory gyoza sauce. The music was fun and lively without being overwhelming. Overall, on a rainy day this is exactly where I want to be.

Phodega is THE place to go for that Viet food lovers! For those who never been or tried youโ€™re missing out. Everything is made in house with an open kitchen so you literally are that beautiful work of art that just warms your belly. Donโ€™t miss out on the Chicken Skin!! After you and eat you donโ€™t want that food coma to hit make sure you grab their Viet Coffee. Creamy delicious and dressing that gave me a burst of energy. This is one of the Asian spots where you see the owners working like a regular employee so that showed me how much they love what they do! The world might be scarier and sucks but I guarantee you that this place will make you happy.

There is a distinct, visceral magic when a kitchen stops trying to optimize for the algorithm and simply cooks the food they grew up eating. Walk into Phodega on Division, and the first thing that hits you isn't marketing jargonโ€”itโ€™s the intoxicating, clear aroma of beef bone broth, star anise, and the distinct sizzle of chicken fat. It is a metropolitan sanctuary of high-fidelity flavor. The Pho Bo arrives unapologetically hot, boasting rare sliced ribeye, brisket, and beef meatballs swimming in a broth so profoundly deep it feels like an emotional reset button. But the real street-level poetry is found in The Viet Dipโ€”a brilliant, messy hybrid of thinly sliced ribeye, jalapeรฑos, and homemade aioli on French bread, served with a side of rich pho jus for dipping. It is absolute genius, completely devoid of pretense. The real Sunday move, however, happens outside, out front. Their "Noods and Grooves" parties turn the vibey front, street-side patio into a sun-drenched haven of deep house music and pure community. As the four-on-the-floor kick drums bounce off the brick walls, you sit there with a cold drink, a bowl of thick rice noodles, and a plate of crispy salt-and-pepper chick

I had Viet dip, which is their #1 Bahn Mi, I thought it was fair, though the liquid gold they give you to dip the sandwich in was delicious (I thought it tasted like a beef sandwich and being in Chicago, would rather go to a beef sandwich joint). I also had the Marinated Pork Belly Bahn Mi and it was fabulous. I would definitely go back for that sandwich. I also got some additional jalapeรฑos and some different sauces, which definitely elevated the taste of both sandwiches. The lady at the counter was super nice and made the experience that much better. I ate outside in the sunshine, which I really enjoyed, especially with all the recent rain.

We were long overdue for a visit to Phodega and finally made it out to support our friend Nate. It did not disappoint. The food was outstanding. Weโ€™ve eaten a lot of Vietnamese food over the years, and this absolutely holds its own. The Viet Dip was crazy good. Deep, rich broth with serious flavor. I even ended up getting the beef banh mi with a side of Viet Dip because the broth was that good. No regrets. The salt and pepper chicken skins were almost too much to handle in the best way possible. Perfectly crisp, packed with flavor, and totally addictive. The ambiance is just as strong as the food. Great music, great energy, real Phodega vibe. We literally found ourselves dancing in our seats while eating. If youโ€™re on the fence, go. Flavor, atmosphere, and overall experience are all top tier. This is now our go to spot for Vietamese food while in the Chicagoland Area!
